The Creation Station Website
Project Date: September 23, 2023
The Creation Station website was designed to support parents of elementary school children with attention difficulties in the design of at-home homework spaces that facilitate their child’s organizational, planning and time management skills. An introductory video explains the overall concept, while individual webpages share the value of individual tools. An interactive element engages the learners by inviting them to design their own room.

Purpose and Goal
The purpose of this project is to expose parents of elementary school children with attention difficulties the benefits of using educational tools in a designated workspace to help facilitate their child’s organizational, planning, and time management skills. The goal is to develop a free, responsive online website accessible to all parents which utilizes text, images, illustrations, and video to educate parents on how to create an effective homework station in their home.
Project Objectives
- Create a responsive, accessible website featuring three tabs: Value & Benefits, Learning Tools and Build Your Creation Station
- Incorporate one introductory video
- Develop an interactive Creation Station activity with ability to purchase educational tools and share on social media platforms
Success Criteria
I will gauge success of my project when the responsive website is complete by the end of the semester. In addition, the overall website will be visually appealing and well organized. The introductory video will be engaging and thought provoking. The three tabs will also deliver the value and benefits of organization, planning, and time management which support the purpose of the accessible website.
Constraints
The website constraints consist of limited time to research and produce the website by the end of the semester. There is no budget to use stock photography, video, and audio content, therefore free stock will be a work around. I must learn to use a free website developer and learn how to make the activity interactive given the parameters of using a free tool.
Risks
The project risks not completing the entire scope of website and testing on time. Due to the nature of technology, there is a risk of technology glitches and constraints. There is also a risk that the interactivity intended is not an available function in the free website tool therefore a redesign or rework may be needed.

User Narrative Summary
A busy working parent has worked at the same company for 10 years. They are technical savvy, deadline driven, and a responsible mentor to a team of five. They value their career and commutes 45 minutes on the train to work, one way. They use commuting time to catch up on social media, blogs, school emails, and life using a smartphone.
Scrolling through websites, they see a bright, orange ad promoting the creation of a homework station. They are responsible for helping their inattentive 8-year-old with homework every night, so they click on the ad. A landing page with a bright orange logo catches their attention. The clean design is easy to navigate to the different areas of the website.
They click on a video that tells them about what they will learn on the website and how they can customize a homework station. They click on Values & Benefits and learn about the importance of Time Management, Planning, and Organization. Everything is color-coded in red, orange, and yellow, with color-coded icons for each topic and they think that is a pleasant color palette. They also like that each category provides bulleted tips which are easy and quick to read.

Professional Application
The capstone course in the instructional design and technology program provides students with a final, culminating opportunity to bring together everything they have learned throughout the program and apply it to a real-world project of the student’s choosing. Students consider learning needs they have observed in their work lives, community engagement or in their own personal experiences and develop a digital learning resource to meet those needs.
The course begins with the students creating a project management plan, which outlines the planned scope and goals of their project, a breakdown of the work that will be involved in creating the project and finally a timeline for developing the project throughout their final semester in the program. Students then begin the creation of their actual project, identifying the information, resources and technology needed to create something which is engaging and effective for their learners.
Throughout the course, students engage in peer review, getting feedback from both one another and the faculty member facilitating the course. Students use this feedback to further refine their projects, submitting their completed work at the end of the course. Students are invited to present their projects to their classmates and our entire instructional design and technology program community of current and former students in a live session offered at the end of the semester.

Course Overview
IDN 550: Capstone Experience is the culmination of a student’s work in the instructional design and technology program. It prepares students to utilize their new proficiency in their current role, or to enter the workforce as instructional designers. In this final course, students use a project management framework to design and develop a unique project reflecting the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program. The project serves to demonstrate fluency with the elements of an instructional design analysis, technical competency, and the ability to leverage theory to inform design. The course also supports students in preparing their resumes and electronic portfolios.
